
Andre Averbug is a seasoned entrepreneur, economist, and writer with over two decades of international experience driving innovation and economic development. His global perspective has been shaped by living and working in numerous countries across North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Central Asia.
As an entrepreneur, Andre has founded and led four startups in Brazil and the US. In 2009, his innovative work earned him the prestigious Global Innovator of the Year award from the World Bank’s infoDev program. He has also been a dedicated mentor and consultant, supporting companies through incubators like 1776 and the Kosmos Innovation Center, as well as programs such as Shell LIVEWire, StartUp Weekend, and WeXchange.
In his role as an economist, Andre has made significant contributions to the development of innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurship and MSME development policy, technology transfer, competitiveness, business climate, infrastructure finance, development effectiveness and M&E, and refugee support policy. His expertise has been sought after by major institutions, including the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), USAID, and the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), as well as clients such as DAI Global, Shell, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), and TechnoServe.
Andre holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of London (UK) and an MBA from McGill University (Canada). He currently resides in the Washington, DC area, where he continues to work on projects that combine his passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development.
